What is Traditional Chinese Medicine?

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is an ancient technique and unique therapy program, which establishes a balance for energy (Yin and Yang) and blood circulation within the body, creating harmony for good health. “Classical” TCM was developed in China as a system of diagnosing and treating pain and any kind of diseases. The first written book was engraved on stone called eight trig rams, the basic foundation of Chinese medicine philosophy was written 3500 years ago.

Maybe the major difference between TCM and Western Medicine is that TCM emphases on prevention, it believes that prevention is better than cure. It tries to identify the inherent health deficiency and medical problem of a person even way before the symptoms or the illness start. In ancient China, medical treatments did not have extensive surgery, hardly any big operations like Western Medicine can do today, that would naturally lead people think that TCM had to develop its methodologies to prevent patients reach the stage of operations. Therefore, TCM treats at early stages of the illness. When people are severely ill, naturally Western Medicine became the only choice when operations can kick in. As a conclusion, TCM is a better, noble or more superior choice to Western Medicine when it comes to achieving every day good health, because it prevents illness from developing to its final stage. When it comes to treatment itself, Western Medicine treats symptoms but do not get to the root of the problem. Pain killers would be for headache, while Reactine would be for allergies. TCM has to identify the root cause of the problem, and different ways of treatments are all targeted the root causes. TCM acknowledge that the body consists of organs that are all interlinked and their Yin & Yang composition determines how the energy flows within the organs of the body. TCM thus goes right to the root of the health problem instead of just treating the symptoms. This holistic approach is as much a preventative course of action as it is therapeutic. The philosophy in China is that we should get healthy from our food first and use medications only when really needed.
