What is Dietary Therapy?

Chinese dietary therapy is an extension of Chinese herbal therapy, as they share the same philosophy and practice. The focus of dietary therapy is to reclaim and preserve our day –to-day health, using combinations of the different food, fruit and vegetables that are accessible to prevent diseased, treatment common problems at home and keep healthy for everyone.

Treatment for the Common Cold

a. Ginger soup:15 g (similar in size to 2 walnuts), 9 green onions cut up including white bulbs and roots, and 2 tsp. brown sugar. Boil all ingredients together in 800 ml of water for 20 minutes. Drink and sleep for 2 hours. Note - Drink this ginger soup at the first sign of a cold.

b. Radish soup:1 lb white radishes cut in small pieces, 15 g fresh ginger, 6 green onions (white bulbs only), 1 big tomato, 5 g salt. Boil all ingredients in 800 ml water for 30 minutes. Eat twice a day.

Treatment for Cough

  • 1 garlic bulb (with skin removed) and 1 Tbsp honey. Combine ingredients in 100 ml of water and steam for 20 minutes. Drink this once a day for 7 days.
  • One half pound soft Chinese tofu, 2 Tbsp brown sugar. Combine ingredients in 100 ml of water, steam for 30 minutes. Eat this twice a day.
  • 15 g fresh ginger, 1 Tbsp brown sugar, 2 Tbsp roasted walnut pieces. Combine ingredients in 100 ml of boiling water. Take twice a day.

Treatment for Sore Throat

  • 30 raisins, 30 green beans, 1Tbsp honey Combine ingredients in 800 ml of water, boil for 20 minutes. Eat and drink once a day. Continue the tea for 2 weeks.
  • 2 tsp white sugar, 20 g sea weed. Boil for 10 minutes. Take twice a day for one or two weeks.
  • 1 tsp green tea, 3 pieces Chinese orange skin, 1 g ginseng root. Boil water to make tea. Let steep for 10 minutes and then add 1 Tbsp honey. Drink slowly - 4 cups daily.

Treatment for Stomach

  • 15 g Rose flowers, 12 black dates, 2 tsp honey. Boil together in 600 ml water for 5 minutes. Drink juice and eat dates once a day.
  • 15 g ginger, 2 tsp honey. Boil in 250 ml water for 5 minutes and drink twice a day.
  • 20 g Red tea, 20 g ginger, 10 g dried of Chinese orange skin, 2 tsp honey. Combine in 1 litre of water, boil for 10 minutes. Take twice a day.

Treatment for Insomnia

  • 1 banana cut up small, 200 ml milk, 1 tsp honey, 5 drops lemon juice. Mix all ingredients together. Warm up mixture and drink 30 minutes before sleep.
  • 100 g ginger cut up in small pieces, 100 ml apple cider vinegar, 100 g salt. Combine in 3 liters of water and boil for 10 minutes. Put in a bowl and soak feet in warm water for 30 minutes. Do this just before bedtime.

Treatment for High blood pressure

  • Eat 30 g of sunflower seeds and drink the juice extracted from one pound of celery twice a day.
  • 1 lb red skin peanuts, 500 ml brown rice vinegar. Put peanuts in the bottom of the pot and cover with the vinegar. Leave covered for 4 weeks. Eat 15 to 20 peanuts before breakfast and after dinner.
  • Put 1 egg in 200 ml rice vinegar. Leave covered for one week before eating. Eat one pickled egg every week for 7 weeks.

Recovery from illness and surgery

  • 1 chicken (1.5 pounds), 30 red dates, 20 g ginseng, ginger root the size of 1 walnut, 1 tsp salt. Combine all ingredients in 3 liters of water to make soup. Eat 3 bowls daily.

Treatment for Dry skin

  • 200 g carrots fried in oil, add 200 g of rice and 2 liters of water. Combine ingredients and boil for 40 minutes to make a soup. Eat once a day for one or two weeks.

Treatment for Neck, Back, Knee, Shoulder and Muscle Pain

  • Half pound of ginger cut up in small pieces, 9 green onion bulbs (white part) cut up small. Mix with one half pound of salt. Put all ingredients in a cloth bag and warm up in microwave for 2-3 minutes. Place on sore spot and leave for 40 minutes using a hot water bottle on top to keep warm. Do this once a day for up to 2 weeks.
